Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) Review

There are tons of MMORPG on the market today, actually, there are too many which makes choosing the best one very difficult.  In this article, we bring you our ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE (ESO) REVIEW and why your investment in this game is truly worth it.  We will bring you specific features of the game which makes Elder Scrolls Online probably the best MMORPG today.

Value for Money

Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is not a free-to-play game.  You have to pay for the game as well as for the DLC or add-ons.  This is a big difference compared to the usual MMORPGS which offers free-to-play game and earns from the cash shop.

Why do I say that it is a value for money?  As you play the game you will notice the big difference of ESO compared to other online games and we will discuss some of them in this Elder Scrolls Online review.  You get a super rich open world game which does not rely on dungeon or level grinding alone to be strong.  It is a game that you will fall in love everytime you play it and would love to get back to it every day.

The Elder Scrolls Online Character and Classes

The playable races in ESO

When you create a character just like other Elder Scrolls game you will be offered a lot of customization to its looks.  Probably to date, Elder Scrolls is one of the best game to provide character customization.

I really like how classes are divided in ESO plus the unique skills which accompany each class are really unique.  You will surely have a character that is truly unique and truly yours as you play Elder Scrolls Online.

Classes in Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) are divided into 5 categories each having their own abilities.  These classes are Dragonknight, Sorcerer, Nightblade, Templar and, Warden.  Each class has three unique skill lines. In addition to classes, players have access to weapon, armor, guild, PvP, and racial skill lines, as well as the mutually exclusive vampire and werewolf lines.

ESO is an Open World MMORPG

Elder Scrolls Online is a huge open world MMORPG.  You can basically do everything in the game, even kill a guard or an NPC if you like though I still have to test if I can kill a banker or such an NPC.  I did manage to kill guards and become wanted which I have to pay off for around 400 plus gold.

It's a huge place with various unique maps.  The landscape is not repetitive and the feel of each of the areas are really unique to the place.  The ambient sounds and effects are really cool as well.  This makes exploration such a wonder even though you have to walk most of the time, ride a mount or pay for the wayshrines.

Unique PvP System in Elder Scrolls Online

There are various ways to engage in a Player-vs-Player (PvP) battle in Elder Scrolls Online.  One of the easiest ways is to challenge any player in a duel.  If that player accepts then the battle will take place at the place where both of you are currently at.  It will show everyone your battle which makes it a great fun to watch.

Another way is through the Battlegrounds which you can join via the Activity Finder.  The type of match that you will be joining depends on the queue that is available, so, for now, you cannot select what you want to join and you cannot pre-select your team as well.  The ESO has a system of matching players based on their role as tank, healer or damage and their level.  Although at times the distribution is not very fair.

Still, another way to fight again other players in Elder Scrolls Online is through the Campaign Map.  In this map, you are part of a war between three pactions - Daggerfall Covenant. Breton. Redguard. Orsimer (Orc); Ebonheart Pact. Nord. Dunmer (Dark Elf) Argonian; and Aldmeri Dominion. Altmer (High Elf) Bosmer (Wood Elf) Khajiit.  I am part of the Aldmeri Dominion since I am a Khajit.  The campaign is pretty unique since it has unique missions and you are pretty much part of a war and will be part of castle captures, Elder Scroll capture, sieges, scouting, assassinations and more. I have yet to explore this part fully.

Guilds in Elder Scrolls Online

Another unique feature in Elder Scrolls Online is guilds.  Unlike many MMORPGs ESO provides a different take on guilds in the sense that:

  • It has no requirement to create your own guild.  Anyone can create a guild.
  • You can join up to 5 guilds maximum.
  • Your guild membership is tied to your ESO account.  This means that all of your characters will have the same guild.
A guild is of various types, so be sure to join at least one trading guild for your resources and gold requirements.

  • Trading which focuses mainly on trading like selling and acquiring items for sale between guild members and others.
  • Roleplaying, well those that bring more rpg based gaming into ESO.
  • PVP guilds concentrate mostly on joining the Battle Ground and other PVP quests.
  • PVE concentrates on dungeon sieges and quests
  • Social guilds which aim to enjoy ESO in the company of friends
  • All Around Guilds are those which do a whole range of activities.

The guild types above are not pre-selected and it depends on what your main activities will be.  Besides there guilds, you can also join NPC guild organizations like the Mage Guild, Fighters Guild, and even the Dark Brotherhood.

Elder Scrolls Online truly make alliances something unique and thrilling both within the characters in the game and off the game, something that other games failed to do.
